Natsuyuki Rendezvous starts with a guy in his twenties, Hazuki-Kun, visiting a flower shop, and you hear him talking about his reason of visiting the flower shop regularly, and how his little greenery room is growing with the growing of his love towards the florist, Rokka-chan, who is almost 8 years older than him!!
When Hazuki starts getting closer to Rokka, the florist and His new manager, he coincidentally meets Rokka's dead husband's ghost, Shimao. The real story begins when the dead husband asks Hazuki to switch bodies so he can stay beside his wife's!
Of course as a living person, Hazuki would refuse to give up on his love and life to a long-dead person! So Hazuki tries his best to show his love to Rokka, but the Ghostly Husband gets in the way, and it annoys the hell out of Hazuki, as well as it will to you!
The Annoying Dead-Flying Husband |
While watching the Anime I had few moments when I felt so sad for the dead husband, and I thought that Hazuki should have told Rokka about him, at least to help the ghost go through this phase which lasted for 3 years and move on to the world of the dead. But knowing that Rokka is still attached to her dead Husband, she won't live normally with Hazuki if she knew that Shimao is still roaming around the house...
We are all selfish, Aren't we?! |
The Ex-couple had a remarkable and a strong relationship, and I thought throughout the whole anime that the Dead Husband was very selfish. After taking the the above snapshot, I realized that his wife was the 1st to blame for her selfish request while he was dying... Now I feel bad for Shimao... But his constant appearance and interfering with Hazuki's love-confession to his Ex-wife was in itself selfish!
Most of the other reviewers had high hopes for this anime, so when it was airing they got bummed and gave the Anime a very low rating! To me, the slow pacing in the story line was perfect, and the fact that it focused more on Rokka and her dead husband is what made it interesting!
I admit that I got lost somewhere in the middle of the anime, but I believe that was due to the heartache I get whenever I start the new episode and remember the previous events. Nevertheless, Natsuyuki Rendezvous is the most heartaching anime I've watched this summer, after Ano Hana, which was aired the previous season.
I guess re-watching it, or reading the Manga would help me understand it more, but it will take alot of courage from me to decide that.
Because this post was shorter than it should be, here is a last note:
the ending if Natsuyuki Rendezvous was brilliant~
